Julie Landis, DPT, CEES, President and Chief Operating Officer: is a board certified physical therapist with expertise in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and ergonomics. With seventeen years in the health care arena, Dr. Landis has worked in the areas of: ergonomics, clinical sports medicine and orthopedics, and has a special interest in spinal therapy (McKenzie) and orthotics. As President & CEO of Ergo Concepts, LLC, Dr. Landis has been involved in all aspects of project management and corporate development. Ergo Concepts, LLC has provided ergonomic consulting services for over eleven years nationwide. Beyond her professional education, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Landis has participated in ergonomic training through Ergo Web, Park City, Utah, and Roy Matheson & Associates, Keene, NH. With more than 2,000 hours of hands-on ergonomic experience, she is a certified ergonomic evaluation specialist (CEES) through Roy Matheson & Associates.
Line Barlund, M.H.Sc, B.Sc.PT, Ergonomist: graduated as a Physical Therapist in Denmark in 1999. She also holds a Master’s in Health Science from Nova Southeastern University, FL where she graduated with highest honors and is a member of the Alpha Eta Society. The Master’s entailed extensive research in the ergonomic field as well as disease and injury prevention. With 12 years of experience in the health care arena, she has worked in the areas of: ergonomics, in-patient and out-patient orthopedic rehab, neuro rehab and pulmonary therapy. She has also been a tutorial leader at Marymount University for Physical Therapy students, and has been a health educator for children in Fairfax County. Her 3 years of ergonomic experience involve all aspects of program development and implementation including ergonomic evaluations, consulting, report writing and plan of action developments in cooperation with facilities managers, seminars as well as marketing and client relations.
Kathy Burwell, OTR/L, Senior Ergonomist: has over twenty six years experience
providing medical and industrial rehabilitation. She has worked as an ergonomic
specialist, occupational therapist, health consultant, and participated in product review.
She received her formal training through San Jose State University’s program in
Occupational Therapy with post graduate work at San Francisco State University. She received her Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy with a speciality in return to work programs. She has had experience in the workers compensation field, private rehabilitation and has provided community based vocational reentry case management services. She is an active member of the American OccupationalTherapy Association and The Bay Area Ergonomic Study Group. Ms. Burwell joined Ergo Concepts, LLC in 2006 as an Ergonomic Specialist and has been the lead ergonomic consultant at the Social Security Administration for ErgoConcepts since 2007. Kathy provides ergonomic services in the San Francisco Bay area.
Gloria Purnell, MS, West Coast Director: is a graduate of the University of California at Davis in Exercise Science. She has been providing workstation evaluations and office ergonomic seminars since 1998. After receiving her BS in Biological Sciences and a teaching credential from UCD, Ms. Purnell went on to teach high school biology for two years. While attending graduate school, she developed and co-directed a weight management program. Upon completion of her MS, Ms. Purnell went on to work in a corporate fitness program for a telecommunications company in San Francisco, San Ramon and Sacramento. She was involved in the management of a fitness center; providing back care and weight management education; personalized exercise programs; physical abilities testing and was trained in office ergonomics. Ms. Purnell has received ergonomic continuing education from the Cooperative Extension program at UCD. Ms. Purnell joined ErgoConcepts LLC in 2006 as the West Coast Coordinator and ergonomist.
Michael Milfort: Ergonomist is a graduate of the Howard University School
of Allied Health. He also holds a bachelors of science in health sciences
and a bachelors of science in physical education. Michael began working with
Ergo Concepts in 2008 and serves as an ergonomic evaluation specialist. His
clinical experiences in physical therapy include care in acute and sub-acute
settings and out-patient orthopedics. His hobbies are reading, sports,
traveling, and exploring new technology.
Laura Schultz, MPT, CEES:Laura Schultz has a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy (M.P.T.) from Northwestern University Medical School, Programs in Physical Therapy (1995) and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1990). She is licensed and insured to practice physical therapy in New York and Colorado. Additional continuing education established her as a Certified Ergonomic Evaluation Specialist (C.E.E.S.).
As a dancer of twenty years and a weight lifter of ten years, Laura has a heightened sense of body awareness. Laura’s injury-prevention specialty includes skiing injury prevention; lectures at Hunter College; and body mechanics training for nurses at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in English and Spanish. As Head Physical Therapist for Plus One at Goldman Sachs New York, Laura presented Traveling Ergonomically, a lecture teaching business people how to move through a day of cars, airports and airplanes with heavy luggage without injuring themselves. Her knowledge of anatomy and its protection has led her to teach Anatomy Based Exercise Techniques, an anatomy-based approach to designing exercises, at the Equinox gyms of New York City and at Plus One. Laura has performed ergonomic adjustments and assessments for law firms, insurance companies and financial investment firms as well as hotels and ski resorts.
